Care & Repair East Lothian has been assisting elderly and disabled clients with repairs, maintenance or adaptations to their homes since 1987, to aid their comfort and wellbeing and in some cases enable them to maintain their independence at home.
Works include roof, window or harling repairs, or adapting a home to meet the needs of a disability such as a stairlift, level access shower or ramp.
A need was identified however, to seek financial help for clients where there is a shortfall in the funding available for these works. Thus, East Lothian Care & Repair Charitable Trust was established.
Even when a council grant can be accessed (in the case of medical disabled adaptations), some clients have little or no savings and it can be a real struggle to fund these very necessary works. The Trust therefore was established to raise funds to offer financial help in these difficult circumstances.
In such cases, Care & Repair will firstly seek funds from other sources such as charities connected to the clients’ former employment – eg the Forces. As a last resort, the Charitable Trust can be applied to for amounts up to £1000.
The organisation is a registered Scottish Charity – No SC028399 and managed by a team of Trustees. Each application is considered by the Trustees before a decision is made whether to make a financial award.
