About Us

Care & Repair East Lothian was set up in East Lothian in 1987 by the then East Lothian District Council and Scottish Office Development Department and was managed by Shelter (Scotland) for 5 years. Since 1993 East Lothian Housing Association has acted as managing agent with revenue funding secured from East Lothian Council.

The core service of Care & Repair East Lothian is to assist home owners and private tenants aged 60 and over or 50 and over with a disability to carry out essential repairs and maintenance and/or adapt their home to make it suitable for changing needs. We can advise on the various funding options available, for example, local authority private sector grant aid, self-funding options and/or charitable funding.

The Small Repairs Service was established in 2003 and provides a high quality service centred on minor repairs and assistance and focusing on safety and security in the home.

The aim of the Small Repairs Service is to prevent minor maintenance problems developing into major works. The types of small repairs include fitting items such as grab and handrails, door locks, safety chains and viewers, doorbells, keysafes and renewing sash cords and timber window sills. In addition, we offer small electrical repairs such as the fitting or repair of security lights, a free electrical home safety check and advice on larger electrical works.
