Small Repairs Service Statement

East Lothian Council has previously provided funding to Care and Repair East Lothian which included a non-statutory Small Repairs Service to homeowners and private tenants. This includes fitting handrails and key safes.  

A reduction in this fund was agreed in the Council’s 2024/25 budget as part of work to reduce their funding gap. This has unfortunately meant that the Small Repairs Service will come to an end on 31 March 2025.  In view of this we are now working to wind down the Small Repairs Service and the last repair / works will take place on 19 February 2025.

Care & Repair will be contacting its clients to inform them of this decision and will support people with contractors where required. East Lothian Council will work with the team to ensure clients are supported.  East Lothian Council have also offered to support the organisation to identify external funding sources.

While we recognise this will be disappointing for some residents, this essential measure will save East Lothian Council £275,000 annually and ensure that funding can continue to fund Care & Repair’s statutory major adaptations service for works including wet floor showers.”
